Health o Meter HDL820-18 Digital Scale with LCD Review

Health o Meter HDL820-18 Digital Scale with LCD

I'm more than satisfied with this scale. I was concerned that I would have to buy a more expensive scale to get good accuracy (see reviews of other digital scales in this price range,) but I've tested it several times over several days, and my weight varies by 2 pounds or less over the course of the day. My first weigh-in of the day is pretty much the same as previous mornings, sadly.
The neutral color (grey) and glass would blend in well with just about any decor, and the LCD screen is easy to read, with 1.5 inch high numbers.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it creaks quite a lot when I step on it, even though I'm nowhere near its 330 pound maximum load. That problem is in my head more than in the scale: I don't think it's going to break, but it sounds like I've got two people standing on it at once--I'm not THAT fat, am I?
An added feature is that when I'm craving, I go into the bathroom and look at it, and know that it isn't going to fall for any of my excuses tomorrow morning. So the last piece of cake still sits in the fridge. The scale has intimidated me into not eating it.
Accurate, easy to read, easy on the eyes, and intimidating--I think it's a good deal.
7/12/2008 update: Two years after I bought this scale, I like it as much as I did when I first got it.
In fact, today I realized my mother needs a scale, and I bought this one for her. I threw in a Sudoku book and got free shipping. And I look like a very thoughtful daughter. ;^)
But I got her this scale because I know that, even with her no longer perfect eyesight, she'll be able to read the numbers. And I know that after two years of daily use, this scale is still accurate.

The Health o Meter HDL820KD-18 Digital Scale with LCD provides the perfect way to track your weight goals, thanks to its fast, accurate measurement capability. Just step on the scale, and in seconds you'll have the information you need for your weight loss or weight maintenance program. Easier to read than old-fashioned dial scales, this scale takes the guesswork out of reading your weight by clearly displaying your information on a large LCD.
Functional, Streamlined Design Simplifies Your Life Unlike old dial scales with tiny, difficult to decipher indexes, the HDL820KD has a 1.3-inch LCD and clear digital numerals that make reading your weight easy.
The scale itself has a slim design with a silver-tone platform and elegant transparent glass accents. Complementing any home decor, the scale is both striking and conveniently sized. It measures 13.4 x 12.7 x 2.7 inches and weighs 4.2 pounds, meaning that unlike bulky, unsightly dial scales, you will never need to store it away. With your scale in view, you will be more likely to measure your progress and reach your weight goals.
This unit runs on one long-life lithium battery (included). Replacing the battery is easy, and a digital readout lets you know when your battery life is low. And for peace of mind, the HDL820KD is covered by a five-year limited warranty.
Precise Measuring Capability for Accurate Results The Health o Meter Digital Scale accurately measures weight in .2-pound increments up to 330 pounds. Such precise measurement makes reaching your weight goals easier, because it means you can learn to understand your weight variation patterns and track how your body responds to different foods, habits, and exercise.
When setting weight objectives for yourself, it is important to have an accurate starting point so you can correctly measure your results. Older bathroom scales featuring a spring action can become inaccurate as the mechanism wears out, meaning that your weight may be off by several pounds each time you step on the scale. The HDL820KD eliminates this problem by "zeroing out"--calibrating itself to begin precisely at zero for better accuracy and, ultimately, better weight control.
Before each weighing, use your foot to gently tap on the lower corner of the scale to calibrate. Once the scale has zeroed out, step on--your weight will be displayed in a matter of seconds. Your weight will continue to be visible for a short time until the LCD turns off automatically.
The Importance of Regular Weight Monitoring to a Healthy Lifestyle Research has shown that people who regularly weigh themselves lose more weight and prevent more weight gain than people who weigh themselves infrequently. This is because weighing yourself more often can help you recognize your body's patterns of weight gain and loss and can help you modify your lifestyle before your weight becomes difficult to control.
Regular weight monitoring will help you learn about how your body responds to different foods, eating habits, and exercise. That means you can learn to understand your weight variation patterns so you won't get discouraged and halt your weight management progress. Also, frequent weighing will fuel your motivation for reaching your weight goals, keeping you on track and encouraged along the way.
What's in the Box Digital LCD scale, one CR2032 long-life 3-volt lithium battery, and instruction manual.

Momo Baby Toddler Mini Weight Scale - Race Car Review

I bought this scale to pack in a suitcase so I could monitor my weight while traveling. It is exceptionally good for this purpose.
It is very small and light weight. It gives very consistent measurements. I was initially concerned about the size and consistency since your feet hang over both ends of the scale when you stand on it. But it works very well.

Microlife WS100 Digital Body Fat Analyzer Weight Scale Review

Microlife WS100 Digital Body Fat Analyzer Weight Scale
Average Reviews:

This scale is truly very disappointing. In comparison to other scales it seems to consistently underestimate my weight. Apart from that, the scale shows me completely different readings, sometimes with gaps as large as 7 pounds, if I measure my weight several times in a row with intervals of a few seconds. In short, I think this scale is pretty much useless.

This isn't just for toddlers. Excellent home scale. The scale exceeds 300 lbs. Some may like to have a scale sitting on the floor of their bathroom but I don't. It can easily be stored anyway.

My Weigh Elite Series Bathroom Body Weight Scale - 400 lb Review

My Weigh Elite Series Bathroom Body Weight Scale - 400 lb
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got this scale to replace an older digital scale that broke, and I'm very impressed.
To weigh yourself, you step on the scale, wait about 3-4 seconds for the scale to stabilize, and look at the reading. The weight is easy to read -- large numerals with a backlight. The only drawback of the backlight is that it will increase battery usage. You have a choice of units -- pounds, kilograms, or stones.
The scale itself is very sleek and low profile. It's 11.8 inches (width) x 11.7 inches. Some scales (both digital and analog) make a clunking sound as you step on, but this is totally silent.
Like most digital scales, it has to be placed on a hard surface such as tile or wood.
Some digital scales have a "fake repeatability." That is, if you weigh yourself, and then hold a small weight and step on again, it gives exactly the same value. This scale doesn't have this undesirable feature. If you hold a small weight, it gives an honest result.
I measured the variability of nine readings. The range (max minus min) was 0.4 pounds, and the standard deviation was 0.12 pounds. This is excellent, and much better than my previous scale.
I think that the absolute reading is very close to correct, but I haven't had a chance yet to compare this scale to the one at my doctor's office.
The instructions warn that the glass surface is slippery when wet. It's not a scale you want to use after stepping out of the shower or bath.
Update January 2011:
After 18 months (and one battery change), it's still working perfectly, but I want to add one more point that other reviewers have mentioned. You do need to remain very still after you get on the scale; otherwise the reading may not lock. To make it work, I stand still for about 5 or 6 seconds. Just stand still and look straight ahead; don't look down at the scale until this time has passed. Occasionally the first reading fails. In that case, step off, wait for the display to go off, and get on again. If the first try fails, the second one almost always succeeds. A person with a balance problem, however, would have difficulty getting a good reading.
I've confirmed that this scale displays a weight extremely close to the one at my doctor's office. (There's no guarantee, of course, that other scales of this model will be equally accurate.)

Body Fat Analyzer - Electronic BIA Meter Review

Body Fat Analyzer - Electronic BIA Meter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this thinking it would be a nice little tool to use every now and again to monitor my body fat level. I am not overweight, and can still see my abdominal muscles; however, I have lost some definition. I know I am not near the 6% I used to be years ago, but a few months ago I manually tested @ 15.1%. I used this and I came in at 30%, which is way higher than I have ever tested. I know I did not add 15% body fat in 3 months. I am returning this tomorrow.
