(More customer reviews)I am vegan, and pretty into healthy eating, and I love Vega Smoothie Infusion, so when I saw Vega Shake & Go at my local health food store I decided to give it a try, even though I had my doubts as to how good something mixed with water could be.
I bought the Choc-a-lot; this review is only about that flavor. The directions say to mix 2 heaping tbsp with 1/2 - 1 c water, shake, and go. I tried it with 1/2 cup water, 3/4 cup water, and 1 cup water. In all cases it was almost un-drinkable. The texture is gritty and chalky, and the taste is chalky too, with an odd 'fake sweetener' aftertaste. Just, yuck. I also tried it with plain soy milk ... the texture was better but the taste was still unpleasant.
I didn't want to give up - Vega products are pretty expensive (though cheaper at my local natural market than here), and super-healthy. I wanted to find a way to make this palatable. What finally worked for me was mixing it into a smoothie. I already have a smoothie I like made with frozen bananas, dates, and almond butter - I added a tbsp of Shake & Go to that and I liked it. The good flavors and texture of my smoothie overpowered the chalkiness of the Shake & Go, and the Shake & Go gave the whole thing a mild chocolate flavor (good with bananas and almond butter... not so good, I imagine, with a berry smoothie).
I have a smoothie with the Shake & Go a few times a week and will until the pouch is gone. But I would not buy this again and I can't recommend it. I wholeheartedly recommend Vega's Smoothie Infusion - which you can throw into anything for a huge health boost.

Hemp is a super source of EFA's and the protein is a highly available type due to the amount of different amino acids. It is good for those with animal milk allergies or who are concerned about cruelty to farm animals. And it is also good for those of us who need to avoid the estrogenic properties of ingesting too many soy products.
Great, so it's healthy, but how does it taste? Well, this hempshake is amazing -- the taste is really great. I particularly like the chocolate. And I'm impressed that although it tastes a 1000 times better than plain hemp powder, it only contains 80 calories and 7 grams of sugar.
As for digestibility, they do add inulin, which is good for the gut, and I don't have any problem with it. However, the high amount of fiber might present a problem for those coming straight from a SAD (standard American diet), so you might want to begin slow with a small drink and work up to the full dose.
In fact, I'm drinking a Nutiva Hempshake smoothie right now for my breakfast. It contains hempmilk (natch), choco hempshake, cayenne, cinnamon, and frozen berries. It is awesome.

(More customer reviews)I drink one of these after coming home from the gym. They're filling and quite satisfying and I don't feel the need to eat anything else. They're best ice cold although the instructions say not to freeze them, so I stick a cold one from the fridge in to the freezer for just a few minutes as soon as I get home, and by the time I've changed out of my sweaty work-out clothes, it's really ice cold without actually being frozen.
160 calories - 30 from fat; total fat 3 grams; 5 grams carbs; 1 gram sugar; 3 grams fiber; 30 grams protein; 330 mg sodium; 680 mg potassium; no high fructose corn syrup. However, FYI, this does contain some calcium caseinate just in case you are not in favor of using calcium caseinate as a protein source.
I buy the chocolate flavor which is quite yummy, not artificial tasting and tastes like thick, chocolate milk - especially when ice cold as mentioned above. I've never tried any other flavors except the chocolate.
This price and shipping seem very expensive, but I buy them at one of the membership big-box warehouse type places (that begins with the letter "C") for a much better and more reasonable price.

Anyone who wants to do an herbal cleanse, I HIGHLY recommend this product to any other. Other cleanse products often make you really sick or you can't stay off the toilet. With the Advocare cleanse, I almost felt like I was more "Regular" when I wasn't taking the cleanse, but when I went, it was big and healthy; no runs. I used a very very strict fruit, tuna, lean meat diet and had awesome results. I dropped weight, but that will happen with any cleanse, cleaning out your system and being on a strict diet. The product itself is like drinking wheat-like tiny slices of grass and it's very thick. It's the texture that is unpleasant, but it's totally doable.
The spark product is delicious and awesome. Definitely kept me drinking water and I used it all- the fruit punch is so good. The omega-plex is just like fish oil, I would rather rave the money that use their's, but it's a package deal. Also, the meal bars are really good.
Overall, their stuff tastes great and works great. It's a good program for those who want to do a diet for a month, but not be absolutely sick. I lived as normal, despite the fact I was eating frequently throughout the day & being specific to fruits, light salads with chicken, and light tuna with crackers, ect.

The Diabetes Portion Control Plate Review

You can make out where they were on the plate if you look at it real close. We now pretty much use it for just an extra plate. (More customer reviews)I was pleasantly surprised when I received The Fitness Challenge. The quality of the pieces far exceeded my expectations. The game came with a really nice scorecard and super strong magnets to hang it on a fridge (or hanging tabs for a wall or corkboard) The rules are very well written - catchy - and easy to understand. You start the game by signing a contract to signify your commitment to exercise for 8-weeks. There are two decks of wager cards that give fun ideas for all kinds of things to bet for. The wager cards are divided into different categories and can be played by couples, kids, relatives, co-workers and friends. They attach to the scorecard with well-made plastic clips. The game also comes with static cling "star points" that allow you to track your workouts. The nice thing is that the entire game is re-useable. The list of exercise choices includes just about any kind of activity you can think of, and the game specifies you how long you have to do each activity, depending on your fitness level. I really felt like having everything you need in the box takes all of the guesswork out of starting and completing an exercise program.

Tanita BC554 Ironman Glass InnerScan Body Composition Monitor Elite Series Review

(More customer reviews)I've used a simple model from Tanita for over 5 years and was as happy as a man with one clock -- I knew exactly what time it was. The added features of the BC554 were irresistable, but now I had 2 sources of data and they were not in agreement by a significant amount (e.g. 3% body fat difference on a base of 16%).
The weight measurement is as good as ever: precise, accurate and consistent. The best that can be said of the other functions is that they seem to be directionally correct and some are simply 'figures of merit', not measurements at all.
Customer support is surprising. When I asked the inevitable questions via their web site, I received a phone call from them. The answers made sense, but only reinforce my assessment.
It seems that the algorithms are based on a statistical sample using gender, age, height, and 'athleticism'. If your actual profile is close to the sample population, the accuracy is probably pretty good. But as you progress toward 'athletic' and away from the calibration population, accuracy declines.
It seems to me that anyone purchasing this model is serious enough about fitness to fall into this 'no man's land'. The other issue is that I would expect some continuity between the measures for 'standard adult' and 'athletic adult'. But there is a chasm! I measured 19% at 'standard' and 9% at 'athletic'. The first is clearly too high and the second is too low. Maybe a calculated average is closer to an accurate reading, but that is a serious shortcoming in a top-of-the-line product.
So, simpler & cheaper is my recommendation. Accept the idea that you are getting directionally correct numbers that are only accurate if you match the calibration population profile.

(More customer reviews)I read every single review before buying this product and just reread them before writing this review. First off, these bars work. I'm a medical writer and work for a bariatric surgeon. Being that I'm only looking to lose about 15 pounds, this bar is perfect. I eat one before Lunch and Dinner, as instructed. The main concept is that it has a lot of fiber in it which is very filling (also very healthy and aids in metabolic function), it also is made of puffed wheat, which mixed with water, swells in your stomach. It doesn't break down too fast either because it is a complex carbohydrate. If you eat these as instructed, with 8 oz of water, wait 30 minutes to have your meal, you will see a huge difference in your appetite...UNLESS you have a very large appetite. People that are more than 30 pounds over-weight will not have as much ease with cutting down on what they eat than someone who is smaller. I think a trick would be, if you feel that hungry and are eating just as much, double your water in take with the full bar. Or add an apple (not skinned, you need the skin!) to your regime about ten minutes after the full bar...before you eat your meal. Good luck. These bars should work for you, but you need to adjust the intake to accomodate your appetite. :-) Oh, and the chocolate ones are the most tasty in my opinion.

I was expecting the worst since it's chock full of good stuff like goji berries, acai, mangosteen and pomegranate. The truth is I usually cannot stand a lot of these brand-name or private-label nutrition/sustenance bars, drinks, and supplements. I have tried a lot of them also.
This one is so good, it just taste like a slightly-sweet (NOT THE USUAL SUPER-SWEET) dried fruit.

(More customer reviews)Some people say these are a high fat , high calorie , high glycemic , glorified candybar. I say otherwise. Concerning fat, not all fats are equal , some being healthy . Since this bar is raw all of the fat,protein and sugar have not been denatured which means you get the full health benefit. As far as being high calorie , considering how nutrient dense these babies are I don't consider 200 calories high in calories at all. For me 200 calories is a perfect number allowing it to be used an nutrient dense snack or a quick meal on the go.
Concerning these supposedly being high glycemic , sure , if you were to eat the dates in these by themselves it would be , but the nuts in them bring the glycemic load of the entire bar way down , which is another benefit of the healthy fats in these bars , it allows for the sugars to be released slower and for it to digest slower making you feel full and satisfied longer.
As far as these not being any better than a candybar I say noway! No preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup , etc, in these babies , just a healthy combo of fruit and nuts. How many nutrients does a candybar have ? Now look at the nutrient in these , loaded with minerals . Also, unlike many other foods these aren't naturally low in nutrients and then "fortified" with man made vitamins and minerals to make them then appear healthy. All the nutrients in these are naturally occuring which gives you the benefits in a synergistic way where other healthy compounds such as flavonoids and phenols work together with naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.
People need to let go of the old dogma which makes them think all fat is bad but if it's sugar free then it MUST be good. If that were true then cotton candy , pepsi and skittles would all be great for ya !Fruit and nuts makes for a good healthy breakfast or snack. I'll eat my greens/green smoothies in the other meals of the day. A person shouldn't eat only fruit and nuts during the day but they shouldn't only eat greens either . These bars help make it easy to strike a balance in your diet on the go. Larabars, Pure bars , SmartMonkey bars and ThinkOrganic bars are all healthy brands of raw bars that amazon sells and all worth a try . Experiment and see what flavors you like best , or make your own !
