For someone with a sweet tooth this is a great substitute for the candy, cookies, cake, etc you're trying to avoid. I found them surprisingly filling for such a small bar. They're great in the morning with coffee as a quick meal on the go, or to stash in your purse for a mid-morning snack. The texture is crunchy without the dry cardboard taste of some diet bars and the blend of chocolate and raspberry is delicious. Amazon's price is the lowest I've found, especially if you sign up for the Subscribe and Save program. I saved 15% off the total price which makes them very affordable.
**If you decide to try these order them through Amazon only. There's a dishonest Marketplace seller, Big City Closeouts, LLC that sends a fraction of what you paid for and the product is 2 months past the sell by date.

The price was right though, so I took a gamble in March 2006 and received a box that had expired in December 2005. Amazon gladly processed my return and replaced them with another box...from December 2005. Your best bet, unless you relish gnawing through stale, rock-hard nougat, is to procure them elsewhere.

good taste that closely approximates "the real thing" in terms of
flavor. When you open the package, the aroma is also quite close to
the actual flavor.
I use to use PowerBars. These taste much better, and have more
nutritional value.
Since I often have to use these in lieu of a proper lunch and sometimes
even dinner (especially when traveling) I wish that they had 100% of the
various vitamins and minerals required each day. At least they have some
unlike other brands.
They do have a fair amount of fat, but at least it is not trans or saturated.
I do recommend these as the best choice of such "bars and supplements"
currently available.

(More customer reviews)I already wrote a review for the chocolate chip ones, though I thought I was writing it for this flavor, so I will just copy and paste. THe both taste good.
I bought these bars as a meal replacement, since I am usually hungry about 4 hours after I had lunch, or 2-3 hours after breakfast, so I have to survive before the next meal. This does the job well. I can stay without eating for another 2-3 hours. It also depends how much water you drink, sometimes all you need is water to get rid of the "hunger". It's the way your body tells you you need water as well.
My stomach is somewhat sensible and doesn't like a lot of stuff, but these bars never bother me.
I also think they are tasty, but only the chocolate ones. I tried the strawberry ones, but they are too creamy. I also liked the chocolate chip ones, they both taste similar, though the chocolate chip ones have more fiber than these ones :P

(More customer reviews)Clif Bars are high-density energy bars, designed to replace the fuel your body needs during demanding workouts. I use them during adventure racing, mountain climbing, and kayaking. They are excellent compared to all the other "power" type bars that are available. These are not "healthy snacks" for couch potatoes to smack on while watching TV. Do that and it'll end up on your butt! Used for the intended purpose, and when purchased fresh, these deserve the 5-star rating I've given.
I buy the variety pack at my local [...], and the price is lower than Amazon's gold box special price. The other advantage of purchasing food in a brick and mortar store is that you can verify the product expiration date. Several reviewers complained about this product being stale and/or out-dated. I've purchased other food products from Amazon and have also noted they are pushing close to the expiration date, meaning that one needs to consume a case of food within a week or two before it expires. Buyer beware.

My youngest son and myself love the mocha chip the best. My other two like them too but I can get them a couple of other flavors. They stopped carrying any of our favorite flavors at Trader Joes. I decided to try a find them directly- online. When I did they came up on your site which we consider reliable and trust worthy and you had a good price and shipping deal. So we can't miss. Just don't buy too many at once so we don't get them too stale. The first shipment seemed like they may have been on the truck awhile. (More customer reviews)First of all, since this is the review of the product, let me say that it is a really great tasting energy bar. It kinda tastes like Snickers, except not as sweet.
Now the reasons you may not want to order here: Earlier reviews that I cannot locate anymore mentioned getting bars that were past the expiration date. I've been ordering them from Amazon for a year now and never had this problem.
Another problem is that Amazon does not protect the shipments from the weather in any way. If you order your bars when it's hot outside they will melt on the way and arrive looking shapeless and unappetizing. So, do not order them from Amazon in the summer.

(More customer reviews)I got this as part of an Amazon special on SlimFast, and didn't look at nutritional data at the store ahead of time. For anyone else who wants more info before purchasing, I decided to provide it, as it doesn't appear in the item description at this time.
First, taste: Good chocolate flavor, a little sweet for my tastes. I bet that's why Diane Aliprandi's kids like it better than Carnation Instant Breakfast. :-) Anyway, I tend to be a little sensitive to the sweetness of things, so take that with a grain of salt.
This is bizarre, but I've noticed that it has a little bit of an odd smell to it. Not offensive, but lingering... ??
Nutrional info (as packaged, not prepared)
Number of servings per container: 14 (1 scoop or 1/3 cup = serving)
Calories: 110
Cal from fat: 30
Total fat: 3.5
Cholesterol: < 5 mg

Protein: 7 g
Vitamin and mineral content varies from 10% to 100% of RDA. Calcium is 20% and Iron is 30%.
The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are (a) cost per serving, (b) the calories to protein & fiber ratio, and (c) the sweetness thing.
Another option to consider is Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast Canisters, not always available in container packaging, but always available in packet form Carnation Instant Breakfast, Variety Pack, No Sugar Added, Carnation Instant Breakfast, Classic French Vanilla, No Sugar Added. The containers have 12 servings per container, 60 cal/serving, 0.5 grams of fat/serving, 12 g carb/serving, 4 g fiber/serving, and 5 g protein/serving. It is less expensive per serving than the SlimFast products (at least in container form), dissolves easier, and is sweetened primarily with Splenda. I find that it keeps me satisfied as well as anything else. I do, however, use 1-2% milk rather than skim when preparing it. Fat is definitely one of the keys to satiety, along with protein and fiber.
Update: Well, I now have to say that this does, in fact, keep me satisfied longer than Carnation Instant Breakfast.

Slim-Fast Optima Ready To Drink Shake, 11-Ounce Cans Review

(More customer reviews)I've been drinking these for about 4 years now, usually 1 a day, and they work pretty well for weight maintenance. When trying to lose weight, I will usually substitute one meal a day with a Slim Fast - breakfast or lunch. I also have these for breakfast a lot, simply because I can grab one from the fridge and drink it in 30 seconds, which is great when I'm in a hurry, and because I always make sure to eat something for breakfast.
Usually however, I drink these in the mornings before a run so that I will have some food in my body to fuel the run. Since it is basically a liquid, it doesn't upset my stomach if I drink it right before I head out the door.
I can't attest to the other flavors, but Rich Chocolate Royale tastes fairly decently. I never crave the taste of a Slim Fast, and I am not fooled into thinking I am drinking a milkshake, but they do taste pretty good.
Finally, the great thing about Slim Fast is the nutritional makeup. It has 6g of fat, which can be misleading since an amazing 3g of that is monounsaturated and polyunsaturated (good fats). The best part about slim Fast are the 5g of fiber and 10g of Protein in each can, which are very high amounts. This makes it great for a post run/workout drink as well.
My only problem with Slim Fast, is that one can is likely not going to be enough to work as a meal replacement for many people. It is just not enough food. I have heard if you try drinking it slowly it helps, but I usually find myself hungry a couple hours after drinking one. For people under 150 lbs it may be enough, but I would almost recommend two Slim Fasts as a meal replacement for anyone trying to lose a significant amount of weight. There is no way I could replace two meals a day with Slim Fasts (like their ads say), then have a "sensible" dinner. I would be starving. But it is a great product as a snack or before a workout.

(More customer reviews)I've reviewed a lot of these products, and most have some common flaws: Bad, "unnatural," or chemical-like taste (especially in the metallic after-taste), woefully stale, cardboard-like texture, high fat content, and relatively high price.
Given all the chemicals listed below, it came as a great surprise that this is a DELICIOUS snack, certainly one of the best of the many I've tried. No strange aftertaste, and real hints of honey (the peanut is a little harder to discern). The texture is soft but with some heft, and, on entry one senses honey, sugar, a hint of peanut and oil, and a vague spicy background. IT's excellent, and not as sweet as the similar but too-sugary (for my taste) yoghurt honey peanut flavor.
My only complaints (and this comes from the head, not the taste, Bud) are the plethora of vitamin and mineral additives (just a personal preference there), and the 3.5 grams of saturated fat, and 17 grams of sugar. However, this is within the range, I believe, of most of these products.
On the positive side, you get 14 grams of sugar, and high percentage of the recommended daily values of a range of vitamins and minerals. Have one of these with a 2-3 lasses of water and you will feel full. Also great as a post work-out pick-me-up. Of course, please consult your health care provider for specific recommendations for your personal use.
I'm not sure how they did it, but Balance has set a new bar (pun intended) for taste!

(More customer reviews)These meal replacement shakes taste good but fail to offer any real body. When made with the skim milk they taste roughly like chocolate milk. My suggestion is to add in a serving of fruit or blend it with ice to give it some extra volume. This has an effect on how filling these products will be.
Previous reviews focused on the sugar involved in these drinks. While its true sugar is non-nutrative these shakes are fortified and contain roughly 1/3rd of your daily requirements for most nutrients. These products are not for someone on a low carb diet but valuable for someone who is on a reduced calorie diet. Finally the price per serving for the mixes will beat most other products hand down. If you are dieting on a budget you'll want to start here.
